Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The ASE Index rose 6.49, or 0.5 percent, to 1,361.12 as of 11:33 a.m. in Athens, paring a 2.6 percent drop yesterday.
The FTSE/ASE 20 Index of the country’s biggest companies added 0.7 percent to 628.83, while the Cypriot General Index advanced 0.3 percent to 961.44.

Mytilineos Holdings SA (MYTIL GA) rose 2.2 percent to 4.26 euros, paring a 3.9 percent decline yesterday. Metka SA (METTK GA), Mytilineos’s separately listed unit that is Greece’s largest builder of power plants, and Ansaldo Energia SpA, a unit of Finmeccanica SpA of Italy, will add 750 megawatts of capacity to the Deir Ali plant south of Damascus. The two also plan to start adding 750 megawatts of generating capacity to the Deir Ezzor plant in eastern Syria this year, Syria’s Electricity Ministry said.
Public Power Corp. SA (PPC GA) gained 1.5 percent to 10.5 euros. Greece’s biggest electricity producer has appointed PriceWaterhouseCoopers to gauge the market about plans to open up lignite reserves through the exchange of lignite-powered capacity, Kathimerini newspaper reported without citing anyone. Initial interest has already been shown by Italy’s Edison Spa, France’s GDF Suez, the Czech Republic’s CEZ AS and the state-controlled Electricity Authority of Cyprus, the newspaper said.
