Alvarez & Marsal, Lehman’s Liquidator, Hires Whyte

Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Alvarez & Marsal LLC, the liquidator of bankrupt Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., hired Bettina Whyte as a managing director and senior adviser.

Whyte chaired the advisory board of Bridge Associates LLC, a crisis management and restructuring firm, before joining Alvarez & Marsal, the company said today in a statement. She was a managing director and head of the special-situations group at MBIA Insurance Corp.

“Her expertise will be a great enhancement to our deep talent base in restructuring and litigation support, and augment our mediation capabilities,” Bryan Marsal, co-chief executive officer of New York-based Alvarez & Marsal, said in the statement.

Whyte, a former president of the American Bankruptcy Institute, is a director on the boards of natural-gas utility AGL Resources Inc., Armstrong World Industries Inc., a maker of vinyl flooring, and Amerisure Insurance Co.

Alvarez & Marsal advises corporations and governments on restructuring. In addition to Lehman, which filed the biggest bankruptcy in U.S. history on Sept. 15, 2008, the firm’s clients have included Visteon Corp., the former parts-making unit of Ford Motor Co., and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
