John Elway has agreed to join the front office of the Denver Broncos, the team he led to two Super Bowl championships in 16 years as their quarterback, the Denver Post reported.
Elway will become vice president of football operations, the Post said, without citing the source of its information. The newspaper said the Broncos are expected to hold a midweek news conference to announce the appointment.
Elway, 50, led the Broncos to National Football League championships after the 1997 and 1998 seasons. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
The Broncos are 4-11 this season entering today’s game against the San Diego Chargers. Denver hasn’t reached the NFL playoffs since 2005.
