Armstrong’s Manager Johan Bruyneel Suspended After Losing Appeal

Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Johan Bruyneel, the manager of Lance Armstrong’s RadioShack cycling team, will miss three stage races in March while serving a two-month suspension for insulting officials at the 2010 Tour de France.

Bruyneel’s suspension by the International Cycling Union for a disagreement before the final stage of the Tour was upheld yesterday by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, the legal panel said on its website.

Bruyneel, 46, had filed an appeal asking to serve the suspension starting in January, instead of February.

The Tour’s final stage on July 25 was delayed 20 minutes after officials told the RadioShack team to change out of its black jerseys bearing the number 28, a reference to the 28 million people fighting cancer. Armstrong, who was diagnosed with cancer in 1996, has supported those affected by the disease through his cancer charity, Livestrong. Armstrong, 39, and his teammates were fined 2,500 Swiss Francs ($2,539) for not clearing the jerseys with race organizers.

The two-month ban, which begins on Feb. 1, will force Bruyneel to miss three stage races, including Paris-Nice, and the one-day classics Milano-Sanremo in Italy and Gent-Wevelgem in Belgium, according to the Associated Press.
