Mexican Stocks: Grupo Mexico, Wal-Mart de Mexico’s Shares Gain

Dec. 30 (Bloomberg) -- The following companies had unusual price changes in Mexico trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 4 p.m. New York time.

The IPC index rose less than 0.1 percent to 38,243.14.

Retailers and consumer-products companies gained after reports showing American jobless claims decreased and new-home sales rose boosted optimism about the economy.

Grupo Elektra SA (ELEKTRA* MM), the retail and banking company controlled by billionaire Ricardo Salinas, gained 0.4 percent to 522.82 pesos. Kimberly-Clark de Mexico SAB (KIMBERA MM), Mexico’s biggest consumer products company, added 0.6 percent to 74.93 pesos. Wal-Mart de Mexico SAB (WALMEXV MM) snapped a five-day slump, advancing 0.9 percent to 35.24 pesos.

Grupo Mexico SAB (GMEXICOB MM), the country’s largest mining company, added 0.1 percent to 49.81 pesos, the fourth straight advance. Copper climbed to records in New York and London after data showed Chinese manufacturing expanded.
