Brazil Stocks: AmBev, Amil, CPFL, EDP, Lojas Renner, Rossi

The following companies had unusual price changes in Sao Paulo trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 3 p.m. New York time. Preferred shares are usually the most-traded class of stock.

The Bovespa stock index rose 0.5 percent to 69,304.81, bringing the annual gain to 1 percent.

Amil Participacoes SA (AMIL3 BS) gained 2.6 percent to 17.80 reais, the most since Dec. 17. The Brazilian health insurance provider rose after Chief Executive Officer Edson Godoy Bueno told O Globo newspaper the company may seek acquisitions.

EDP-Energias de Portugal SA (ENBR3 BS) rose 1.7 percent to 38.71 reais. Cia. Energetica de Minas Gerais, or Cemig, is in talks to buy EDP’s Bandeirantes and Escelsa units and Endesa SA’s Ampla and Coelce divisions, Folha de S. Paulo newspaper said.

Companies that benefit from credit expansion advanced on speculation President-elect Dilma Rousseff will be able to lower real interest rates after she takes office Jan. 1.

Lojas Renner SA (LREN3 BS), Brazil’s biggest publicly traded clothing retailer, jumped 2.7 percent to 56.40 reais, the most since Dec. 21.

Cia. de Bebidas das Americas (AMBV4 BS), Latin America’s largest brewer, known as AmBev, gained 1 percent to 50.52 reais, the most since Dec. 21.

Homebuilder Rossi Residencial SA (RSID3 BS) climbed 1.9 percent to 14.79 reais, the highest price since Dec. 7.
