Polish Ruling Party Has 50 Percent Support in Poll, PAP Reports

Dec. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Poland’s ruling party has enough support to get half of the national vote if elections were held this month, a new poll cited by PAP newswire showed.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s Civic Platform has the backing of 50 percent of respondents, 2 percentage points lower than in November, while the main opposition Law and Justice party has 22 percent of the vote, against 23 percent a month ago, according to the Dec. 2-6 survey of 975 adult Poles for TNS OBOP.

Polska Jest Najwazniejsza, or Poland is Most Important, a breakaway movement set up by former members of Law and Justice last month, has 2 percent of the vote, while the Polish Peasants’ Party, the junior coalition partner in Tusk’s government, has 7 percent, 3 percentage points higher than November, the poll showed.

Poland is due to hold parliamentary elections in the second half of 2011.
