Dec. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Otomotiv Sanayi AS, the Turkish unit of Ford Motor Co., began shipping the first electric-powered versions of the Transit Connect van to customers in North America, Milliyet reported.
The vehicles are produced at Ford Otomotiv’s plant in Kocaeli, Turkey without motors and then fitted with electric motors and batteries by Canada’s Azure Dynamics, Milliyet said. Initial customers for the vehicles in North America include AT&T Inc, Southern California Edison Co., Xcel Energy Inc, Johnson Controls Inc, the New York Power Authority and the Canada Post, Milliyet said.
Full-capacity production of the vehicles, which can run 130 kilometers (80 miles) on one charge, will begin in April of next year, Milliyet said.
