AU Optronics Rises Most in 2 1/2 Months on China Plant Report

AU Optronics Corp. rose the most in two-and-half months in Taipei trading after the Economic Daily News cited Taiwan Premier Wu Den-yih as saying the company will win government approval for a new flat panel plant in China.

The stock gained 3.7 percent to NT$31.20 as of 11:47 a.m., set for the biggest advance since Sept. 29. Woody Duh, head of the Industrial Development Bureau at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, didn’t answer calls to his mobile phone. Fan Liang-tung, executive secretary at the Investment Commission at the economic ministry, couldn’t immediately take calls at his office as he was at a meeting.
