Liverpool Targets Young
Liverpool is planning to sign Aston Villa’s Ashley Young for 15 million pounds ($23.7 million) in next month’s transfer window, the Daily Mirror reported.
Sources at Liverpool are “quietly confident” the Reds can reach a deal with Villa if the England winger agrees to the move, according to the Mirror.
Reds Want Right Back
Liverpool is “closing in” on Rennes right back Rod Fanni, raising doubts about the future of England international Glen Johnson, the Daily Mirror said.
Fanni would cost 3 million pounds, according to the Mirror. Tottenham is among teams interested in signing Johnson if he becomes available, the newspaper reported.
Villa’s Keane Bid
Aston Villa is to bid 6 million pounds for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, the Daily Mail reported.
Keane has held talks with Spurs about leaving and Villa coach Gerard Houllier will “move swiftly” to conclude a deal, according to the Mail.
West Ham, Wolves and Celtic also want to sign Keane, according to the Daily Star.
Beckham Says No
Leicester coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said David Beckham rejected an offer to join the second-tier Championship team on loan, the Sun reported.
Eriksson also unsuccessfully tried to add Tottenham’s Keane and Manchester City’s Roque Santa Cruz as he seeks a “big name signing” next month, the Sun said.
