AES Idles Some Output From Huntington Beach Unit in California

AES Corp., an Arlington, Virginia- based power producer, idled some output at a natural gas-fired unit at a Southern California plant.

The company’s 225.8-megawatt Huntington Beach Generating Station Unit 2 had 115.8 megawatts offline as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report. The curtailment of 51 percent capacity was unplanned.

The 225-megawatt Unit 3 at the plant has also been idled for the past two days in an unplanned shutdown.

The generating plant has a total capacity of 904 megawatts, according to the website of AES. One megawatt can power 800 typical U.S. homes.
