Ex-Venezuela Brokerage Head Alleges Extort Bid, El Mundo Says

The chief of Venezuela’s securities regulator, Tomas Sanchez, flew to Miami to demand $2 million from exiled brokerage director Tomas Vasquez, El Mundo said, citing Vazquez.

Sanchez traveled to Miami in April with Rafael Ramos de la Rosa, who on Dec. 3 pleaded not guilty to a charge by federal prosecutors in Florida of seeking to extort $1.5 million from Vasquez, the ex-President of Uno Valores Casa de Bolsa C.A., El Mundo said. De La Rosa was appointed receiver of Uno Valores.

Vasquez is wanted by authorities in Venezuela after the government took over Uno Valores, saying it was selling securities without authorization.

Calls by Bloomberg News to Sanchez’s cell phone weren’t immediately answered. A Finance Ministry official, who isn’t authorized to speak publicly, declined to comment.
