Cargill Faces ‘Challenges’ to Cocoa Deliveries in Ivory Coast

Dec. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Following are comments on Cargill Inc.’s cocoa deliveries in Ivory Coast from Stephen Fairbairn, Cobham, England-based head of communications, who spoke today by phone.

An election intended to unite Ivory Coast, the world’s biggest cocoa producer, has turned into a standoff between incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo and rival Alassane Ouattara. Cargill, located in Minnetonka, Minnesota, is a grain distributor and the largest closely held U.S. company.

“We are continuing to try and operate as close to normal as possible, but we are, like everybody else, experiencing some challenges both in terms of delivery of beans and logistics on the ground.”
