Statoil Platform Evacuated Amid Gas Leak, Aftenbladet Reports

Statoil ASA briefly evacuated staff to lifeboats at the North Sea Gullfaks B platform after sensors detected a gas leak, Aftenbladet reported, citing Heidi Olsen Roalsoe, spokeswoman for the Stavanger, Norway-based company.

The alarm started 2 p.m. local time yesterday during a planned maintenance operation and by 4 p.m. workers had returned to the platform as the leak had stopped, the newspaper said.

Statoil this month restarted drilling and well operations at the Gullfaks field after halting activity on Nov. 10 to conduct a safety review. Pressure in a well on the Gullfaks C platform had destabilized on May 19 causing an evacuation and a two-month production shut-down.
