Irish Opposition Differ on Scale of Cuts, Independent Reports

Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Ireland’s main opposition Fine Gael and Labour parties, which may form the government after elections early next year, differ on how much the country’s deficit can be reduced, the Irish Independent reported.

Labour said the deficit can be reduced by 4.5 billion euros ($6.1 billion), while Fine Gael said it can be reduced by 6 billion euros, the newspaper reported.

Fine Gael wants no income tax rises while Labour want to raise taxes for those earning 100,000 euros or more per year, the newspaper said.
