Delay in Arab-Israeli Talks ‘Absolute Disaster,’ Abdullah Says

Failure to reach a two-state solution for Palestinians and Israelis is an “absolute disaster” that is fuelling the ideological argument of extremist groups in the Middle East, Jordan’s King Abdullah said.

“There is no excuse for the delay,” King Abdullah said in a speech at the Manama Dialogue conference in Bahrain today. “If we don’t take this issue off the table those religious organizations become internal problems for us.”

In December last year, Jordanian suicide bomber Hammam Khalil al-Balawi killed seven Central Intelligence Agency operatives as well as a Jordanian intelligence officer in an attack on a CIA base in eastern Afghanistan.

“Our war against terrorism continues,” Jordan’s Prime Minister Samir Rifai told Petra news agency two weeks after the attack. “We will be present wherever necessary. We will not allow anyone to tamper with our security, the stability of our country and the future of our children,”

Rifai, who was reappointed premier by King Abdullah last month, said Jordan’s commitment to fight terrorism overseas followed suicide bombings in 2005 in the capital, Amman, which killed more than 50 people.
