Nigeria’s House to Quiz Central Bank Head Dec. 6, ThisDay Says

Nigeria’s House of Representatives postponed until Dec. 6 a hearing for central bank Governor Lamido Sanusi to defend his allegations that the legislature consumes a quarter of the government’s recurrent expenditure, ThisDay said.

The house, the lower chamber of parliament, took the decision when Sanusi arrived for the hearing previously scheduled for yesterday, the Lagos-based newspaper said. He appeared before the Senate, the upper legislative arm, on Dec. 1 for the same reason.

Citing figures from the budget office, Sanusi said the government’s recurring expenditure was 536.3 billion naira ($3.6 billion), of which 136.3 billion naira went to the parliament, BusinessDay reported yesterday. Lawmakers dispute the figures.
