EU Has Smaller Rapeseed Crop, Will Boost Soy Imports, USDA Says

Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- The European Union rapeseed crop fell 5.7 percent to 20.34 million metric tons in 2010 as adverse weather reduced output in France, Germany and Poland, a according to a unit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The 27-nation trading bloc will boost imports of soybeans to 13.35 million tons in the marketing year that began Oct. 1, from 13 million in the previous year, the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service said today in a report on its website.

Imports of soy-based animal feed will rise to 23.2 million tons in the year ending Sept. 30, up from 21.7 million, according to the report. Production of fuels made from oilseeds and mixed with diesel will rise to 11.7 million tons in 2010, from 9.6 million in 2009, the FAS said.
