Russia Wins 2018 World Cup in Two Voting Rounds, Qatar in Four

Dec. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The following are the results of voting for the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, according to soccer governing body FIFA.

Votes were cast by the 22 members of the FIFA Executive Committee in Zurich today, with 12 needed for a majority. The bidder with the lowest total in each round was eliminated.

2018 Round 1: Russia 9, Spain/Portugal 7, Netherlands/Belgium 4, England 2. (England eliminated).

Round 2: Russia 13, Spain/Portugal 7, Netherlands/Belgium 2. (Russia wins with majority.)

2022 Round 1: Qatar 11, South Korea 4, U.S. 3, Japan 3, Australia 1 (Australia eliminated).

Round 2: Qatar 10, U.S. 5, South Korea 5, Japan 2 (Japan eliminated).

Round 3: Qatar 11, U.S. 6, South Korea 5 (South Korea eliminated).

Round 4: Qatar 14, U.S. 8 (Qatar wins with majority).
