China Charges Australian with Embezzlement, AFP Says

(Corrects to show the Et-China chief was charged in China in headline and first paragraph.)

Dec. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Travel company’s Australian chief executive was charged on Nov. 30 with misappropriating company assets by Chinese authorities, Agence France-Presse reported, citing an unidentified Australian foreign office spokeswoman.

Chief Executive Officer Matthew Ng was detained by police in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, the company said on Nov. 22.

Phone calls to Et-China and the company’s public relations firm were not answered. Janaline Oh, counsellor of public affairs at the Australian Embassy in Beijing, didn’t answer calls made to her office and mobile phone.
