Moneyweb, Caxton, Simmer: South African Equity Market Preview

Nov. 19 (Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may have unusual price movements in South Africa. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.

South Africa’s FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index gained 228.83, or 0.7 percent, to 31,574 at the close in Johannesburg.

Moneyweb Holdings Ltd. (MNY SJ): The owner of news websites said Caxton & CTP Publishers and Printers Ltd. (CAT SJ) agreed to form a voting pool with other investors to control the company and will make an offer to minority shareholders. Moneyweb was unchanged at 98 cents while Caxton was unchanged at 15.20 rand.

Simmer and Jack Mines Ltd. (SIM SJ): The gold producer raised $20 million in a forward sale of 2,030 ounces of gold and used the proceeds to repay 105 million rand ($15 million) on an outstanding loan. Simmer was unchanged at 90 cents.

Shares or American depositary receipts of South African companies closed as follows:

Anglo American Plc (AAUKY US) rose 3 percent to $23.57. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) rose 0.9 percent to $47.74. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) increased 2.7 percent to $75.78. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) gained 3.7 percent to $5. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) added 0.2 percent to $16.71. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) climbed 0.1 percent to $11.76. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) rose 1.7 percent to $30.65. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) fell 0.4 percent to $5.45. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) added 0.8 percent to $48.01.
