Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- The San Jose Sharks signed team captain Joe Thornton to a three-year, $21 million contract extention, the National Hockey League team said on its website.
Thornton, 31, is now under contract through the 2013-14 season. He could have become a free agent after this season.
Thornton has 287 goals and 646 assists over his 13-year career with Boston and San Jose. He’s had seven straight seasons of 20 goals and 50 assists and was named the NHL’s Most Valuable Player in 2006, when he also led the league in scoring.
