Sept. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Sahara India Pariwar is in talks to buy movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. for more than $2 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unidentified person familiar with the matter.
The talks are at an early stage and MGM hasn’t shown substantial interest in a deal with Sahara, the newspaper said.
MGM owes creditors about $4 billion and its lenders are preparing to take it over in a streamlined bankruptcy next month, the Journal reported.
Both MGM and Sahara declined to comment to the newspaper, it said.
Abhijit Sarkar, a spokesman for Sahara India, couldn’t be reached by Bloomberg News when called before normal office hours.
