Aug. 28 (Bloomberg) -- At least 3,500 visitors to the British Museum in London were evacuated today after an odd smell caused eye and throat irritation, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported on its Web site.
The evacuation was a precautionary move and the incident may have been related to the air-conditioning system, the BBC said, citing an unidentified spokesman for the Metropolitan Police.
The event, which occurred at about 12:30 p.m. London time, didn’t cause any injuries, the news service said, citing a museum spokeswoman. The London fire brigade was at the site, the BBC reported.
