Robinho to Meet With Fenerbahce in Hope of Move: Soccer Roundup

Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- The following is a roundup of soccer stories from U.K. newspapers with clickable links to the Web.

Robinho’s Hope

Robinho will meet with Fenerbahce officials today in the hope of sealing a move from Manchester City before the Aug. 31 transfer deadline, the Daily Telegraph said.

The Brazil forward has been told he can leave City, which he joined from Real Madrid for a British-record 32.5 million pounds ($50 million) in 2008.

Turkish club Besiktas agreed to a 16 million-pound fee with City last week, but was unable to find a sponsor to help fund the deal, opening the door for rival Fenerbahce, the Telegraph said.

Burdisso Link

Chelsea has been linked with a move for Inter Milan defender Nicolas Burdisso, the Daily Mail said.

Chelsea is looking to add to its backline after Ricardo Carvalho’s departure to Real Madrid. The Premier League champion was eyeing Benfica’s David Luiz, but his 27 million-pound price tag could be too much and reports in Italy say manager Carlo Ancelotti has turned his attention to Burdisso, the Mail said.

Crouch Swap

Everton manager David Moyes is willing to part with Steven Pienaar in an effort to sign Tottenham’s Peter Crouch, the Daily Mirror said.

Moyes has been pursuing Crouch for the past month and the two clubs are now in advanced talks about a swap, the Mirror said.

Cole Interest

Sunderland is interested in West Ham striker Carlton Cole after failing to sign Ghana international Asamoah Gyan, the Mail said.

French club Rennes wants 12 million pounds for Gyan and Sunderland would prefer a player with Premier League experience for that price, the Mail said.

Another Gunner

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is looking to sign another former Arsenal player in Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra, the Mirror said.

Redknapp is a fan of Diarra, having signed him from Arsenal while manager at Portsmouth in 2008. The Spurs boss added former Gunners captain William Gallas at the weekend.
