France’s CAC 40 Index retreated 0.4 percent to 3,647.93 at the 5:30 p.m. close of trading in Paris. The SBF 120 Index fell 0.3 percent to 2,702.78.

Bic SA (BB FP) gained 1.4 percent to 57.61 euros. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. upgraded its recommendation on the maker of ballpoint pens to “neutral” from “sell.”
Groupe Eurotunnel SA (GET FP) rose 3.5 percent to 6.01 euros. Traffic has increased and passenger transport is doing well, Chief Executive Officer Jacques Gounon told Le Figaro in an interview. There has been an increase in interest in the company’s shuttle service, Gounon told the newspaper, without giving any figures.
NicOx SA (COX FP), whose experimental osteoarthritis therapy failed to win U.S. approval last month, surged 25 percent to 2.63 euros after Dow Jones said the treatment could achieve annual sales of about 200 million euros ($257.6 million) in Europe. The rally was the biggest advance among companies on the SBF 120 index.
Total SA (FP FP), Europe’s third-largest oil company, lost 0.9 percent to 39.01 euros as crude oil declined.
