Clientele, First Uranium, JSE: South African Equity Preview

Aug. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may rise or fall in South Africa. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.

The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index rose 56.86, or 0.2 percent, to 27,583.09 in Johannesburg.

Chemical Specialties Ltd. (CSP SJ): The paint manufacturer said it sold 108.5 million shares to existing shareholders for 97.7 million rand ($13.4 million). The shares fell 3 cents, or 3.5 percent, to 83 cents.

Clientele Ltd. (CLI SJ): The life insurer said per-share earnings, excluding one-time items and goodwill amortization, rose 11 percent in the 12 months through June from a year earlier. The stock was unchanged at 7.7 rand.

First Uranium Corp. (FUM SJ): The gold and uranium producer said it’s investigating how a junior financial accountant failed to respond to a summons from South Africa’s Competition Tribunal to provide it with information on a merger unrelated to the company. The Tribunal had laid a charge with South African police against the accountant for not responding to the summons. First Uranium shares were unchanged at 6.93 rand.

JSE Ltd. (JSE SJ): The operator of Johannesburg’s stock exchange is scheduled to report first-half earnings. The shares rose 54 cents, or 0.7 percent, to 73.04 rand.

Mazor Group Ltd. (MZR SJ): The supplier of steel and aluminum doors said it will provide security of 20 million rand on a loan provided to its investor, Cloudberry Investments 18 Ltd., by First National Bank Holdings Ltd. The shares fell 6 cents, or 3.2 percent, to 1.79 rand.

Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:

Anglo American Plc (AAUK US) rose 2.6 percent to $18.92. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) added 2.5 percent to $43.97. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) increased 1.2 percent to $61.26. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) gained 1.2 percent to $4.20. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) advanced 1.6 percent to $14.18. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) slipped 0.9 percent to $10.79. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) dropped 1.8 percent to $25.20. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) fell 0.4 percent to $4.83. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) rose 0.9 percent to $39.87.
