Aug. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Stoke City signed Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones in a club-record 8 million-pound ($12.5 million) deal, the Premier League club said on its website.
Jones, 25, signed a four-year contract, Stoke said. The transfer tops defender Robert Huth’s 6 million-pound move from Middlesbrough last August.
“We need goals in our team and we also need strong competition among our strikers if we are to continue improving at this level,” Stoke manager Tony Pulis said. “Kenwyne will give us that.”
Jones scored 26 Premier League goals for Sunderland after a 6 million-pound move from Southampton in 2007. He scored three goals in 13 games during a loan spell at Stoke in 2005.
