Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- The Cincinnati Reds, who lead the St. Louis Cardinals by two games in the National League Central Division, traded for outfielder Jim Edmonds today by sending outfielder Chris Dickerson to the Milwaukee Brewers.

At 64-48, the Reds are 16 games over .500 for the first time since 1999. They begin a three-game home series with the Cardinals tonight.

Edmonds, who played eight seasons with the Cardinals, becomes the fifth player that Reds general manager Walt Jocketty has brought to Cincinnati from his former team. Jocketty was the Cardinals’ general manager from 1994 to 2007, when he was fired a year after the Cardinals won the World Series.

Edmonds, 40, in his 17th season in Major League Baseball, is hitting .286 this season with eight home runs and 20 runs batted in. Edmonds, a four-time All Star, and Dickerson cleared waivers before the trade could be completed.

Mike Vassallo, a spokesman for the Brewers, confirmed the trade.
