Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta has agreed to a five-year contract until 2015, the Premier League club said on its website.
Arteta had been linked with Arsenal and clubs in his native Spain. The 28-year-old follows Tim Cahill, Leighton Baines, Jack Rodwell and Seamus Coleman in signing a long-term contract at Goodison Park this summer.
“What this summer has made me realize is how important I am to the club and how important the club is to me,” Arteta said on Everton’s website. “The chairman and the manager wanted me to stay 120 percent and that makes me feel proud.”
Arteta has scored 23 Premier League goals since joining Everton from Real Sociedad in January 2005.
