July 20 (Bloomberg) -- Tropical Storm Chanthu moved within about 540 kilometers of Hong Kong today, prompting the city’s Observatory to issue the No. 1 standby signal.
“There are signs that Chanthu will intensify further” and meteorologists might raise the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal overnight, the Observatory said on its website.
Chanthu was centered south-southeast of Hong Kong and forecast to move northwest at about 15 kilometers per hour toward the coast of China’s Guangdong province, the Observatory said.
A No. 3 signal indicates sustained winds of 41 to 62 kilometers per hour and gusts of more than 110 kilometers per hour.
