Germany, Ghana Advance at World Cup; Australia, Serbia Out

June 23 (Bloomberg) -- Germany and Ghana advanced to the round of 16 at the World Cup from Group D, while Australia and Serbia were eliminated.

Germany beat Ghana 1-0 to win the group with six points. Ghana and Australia, which defeated Serbia 2-1, finished with four points, Ghana taking the second qualifying place on a superior goal difference. Serbia was last with three points.

Ghana will face the U.S. next on June 26, with Germany meeting England the following day. The U.S. beat Algeria 1-0 earlier today to win Group C, and England was second after beating Slovenia 1-0.

Mesut Ozil scored in the 60th minute in Johannesburg to give Germany the victory. Tim Cahill and Brett Holman had goals four minutes apart in the second half for Australia in Nelspruit.
