Blackhawks Defeat Flyers 6-5 in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Playoffs

Tomas Kopecky scored a goal midway through the final period to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Flyers in the first game of National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup playoffs.

The win gives the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.

The Flyers grabbed a 3-2 advantage in the first period on goals by Ville Leino, Scott Hartnell and Danny Briere at United Center in Chicago. Troy Brouwer and Dave Bolland scored for the Blackhawks.

Chicago added three in the second period to tie the Flyers at 5-5 on goals by Patrick Sharp, Kris Versteeg and Brouwer. Blair Betts and Arron Asham scored for Philadelphia.

The teams meet for Game 2 tomorrow in Chicago.
