May 21 (Bloomberg) -- Arsenal signed Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh to a “long-term” contract, the Premier League soccer club said on its web site.
Chamakh, 26, scored 79 goals in eight seasons at Bordeaux. He was linked with a move to Arsenal after last season, but returned to Bordeaux and helped the club reach the Champions League quarterfinals.
“He is a player we have admired for some time now and I know he will provide our squad with great quality,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.
Chamakh had 14 goals during the 2008-09 season as Bordeaux won the French league title. He’s also scored 27 goals in 53 games for the Morocco national team.
