May 13 (Bloomberg) -- Alitalia SpA reduced its operating loss in the first quarter as traffic increased, especially on international routes.
Alitalia lost 125 million euros ($158 million) based on earnings before interest and taxes, less than the 210 million-euro operating loss posted a year earlier, Italy’s flagship airline said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.
Sales rose 24 percent to 639 million euros. Passenger traffic advanced 7 percent to 4.7 million passengers, with a 35 percent increase on intercontinental flights and 17 percent on international flights, the company said.
Alitalia had 390 million euros in cash as of March 31 and debt of 903 million euros.
