May 8 (Bloomberg) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 to come within one game of reaching the National Hockey League Eastern Conference final.
The defending champion Penguins lead the conference semifinals 3-2. They can win the best-of-seven series in Montreal on May 10.
Kris Letang scored a power-play goal for the Penguins with less than two minutes left in the first period, while Sergei Gonchar added another one in the second period.
Mike Cammalleri gave the Canadiens their only goal with 31 seconds left in the game.
The Penguins will try to eliminate the Canadiens in Game 6 on May 10 in Montreal.
In tonight’s other NHL game, the San Jose Sharks are seeking to eliminate the Detroit Red Wings with a win in the Western Conference semifinals.
