Canucks, Bruins Win to Open NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Semifinals

May 2 (Bloomberg) -- The Vancouver Canucks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-1 and the Boston Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in overtime to open the National Hockey League Stanley Cup semifinals.

Christian Ehrhoff and Mason Raymond put the Canucks ahead 2-0 in the first period, while Henrik Sedin, Kyle Wellwood and Michael Grabner added three goals in the second period at United Center in Chicago.

Patrick Kane gave Chicago its only score in the third period.

The Canucks, who took a 1-0 lead in their Western Conference semifinal series, meet the Blackhawks tomorrow for their second game.

At TD Garden in Boston, Marc Savard scored with 6:08 left in overtime to give the Bruins the win. Savard was playing his first game since suffering a concussion in March.

Patrice Bergeron and Miroslav Satan each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who host Game 2 of their Eastern Conference series tomorrow. Mike Richards had a goal and two assists for the Flyers.
