Spurs, Suns Advance to Second-Round Meeting in NBA Playoffs

April 30 (Bloomberg) -- The San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns wrapped up first-round National Basketball Association playoff series and will meet in the Western Conference semifinals.

Manu Ginobili scored 26 points to lead the Spurs to a 97-87 win last night at home against the second-seeded Dallas Mavericks. The seventh-seeded Spurs won the series 4-2.

Jason Richardson had 28 points for the Suns, who beat the Portland Trailblazers 99-90 to capture their best-of-seven series 4-2. Grant Hill had 12 rebounds for Phoenix and made the second round of the playoffs for the first time in his 15-year NBA career.

“I’m very happy,” Hill said in a televised courtside interview at the Rose Garden in Portland. “It’s the playoffs, man.”

George Hill added 21 points for the Spurs at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, while Dirk Nowitzki finished with 33 points for Dallas. The Spurs avenged their 4-1 first-round loss to the Mavericks in last year’s playoffs.

“It was really tough,” Ginobili said in a televised courtside interview. “Down the stretch we made the big shots.”
