Ferguson Wants Moyes as Manchester United Coach: Soccer Roundup

April 21 (Bloomberg) -- The following is a roundup of soccer stories from U.K. newspapers, with clickable links to the Web.

Fergie: Give Job To Moyes

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson thinks Everton boss David Moyes is the best man to succeed him at the club after one more season, the Sun said.

Although Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho is the bookmakers’ favorite to succeed Ferguson, the Portuguese hasn’t convinced the “United hierarchy” that includes Bobby Charlton.

Ferguson, 68, has been full of praise of Moyes’ achievements, first at Preston and now at Everton, and thinks a British manager should be given the chance to run the club, the Sun said.

City Target Villa’s Young

Manchester City is targeting Aston Villa player Ashley Young while it prepares to sell Craig Bellamy, Martin Petrov and Shaun Wright-Phillips, the Daily Mirror reported.

Cahill Bolton’s Cash Cow?

Bolton will raise the price for its centre-half Gary Cahill to 17 million pounds, should the player make it into the England squad for the World Cup in South Africa, the Sun reported.

Bolton had already lifted its price tag for Cahill to 15 million pounds, in an attempt to fend off interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton.

Liverpool Target Pienaar

Liverpool may make a move for Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar, the Daily Mail reported.

The South African, who has 14 months left on his contract, is currently in negotiations with Everton.
