Mets Promote Top Prospect Ike Davis to Major Leagues

April 19 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Mets promoted first base prospect Ike Davis, the team’s first-round pick in 2008.

Davis was called up from Triple-A Buffalo today, team spokesman Ethan Wilson confirmed in an e-mail.

Davis will wear No. 29 and be available for the Mets’ home game tonight at Citi Field against the Chicago Cubs.

The Mets are 4-8 this season, last in the National League East. Their 48 runs are tied for 24th among Major League Baseball’s 30 teams, and their nine home runs are tied for 23rd.

Davis, a 23-year-old left-hander who played at Arizona State University, batted .364 with two homers and four runs batted in over 10 games for the Bisons of the International League.

Davis’s father, Ron, pitched for the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants from 1978-1988.
