April 18 (Bloomberg) -- The Boston Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-3 to tie their National Hockey League first-round playoff series at one game each.
Michael Ryder and Zdeno Chara had two goals each for the Bruins, who scored three third-period goals at HSBC Arena in Buffalo. Mark Recchi added an empty-net goal to clinch the victory.
The best-of-seven Eastern Conference series shifts to Boston for Game 3 in two days.
In other games, the Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-5 in overtime to tie their series at one game each, and the Los Angeles Kings topped the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in overtime to even up their quarterfinals at 1-1.
