. . . and it is in the enviable position of owning or managing six television stations in Pennsylvania, where the next big-state primary showdown looms: WRYH in Harrisburg; WBRE and WYOU in Scranton; WTAJ in Altoona; WJET and WFXP in Erie.
This more or less puts Nexstar uniquely well-positioned to soak up some of the torrents of ad dollars that the Obama and Clinton Presidential campaigns will spend on Pennsylvania TV between now and the April 22 primary. (In other words: seven weeks of two well-heeled competitors going at it like it’s Iowa all over again.) And bear in mind this ad windfall comes via a new-ish reality that Sook would have likely thought impossible even a few weeks ago.
Other companies in line for a Pennsylvanian revenue infusion: Hearst-Argyle (owners of WGAL in Harrisburg and WTAE in Pittsburgh); Tribune (owners of WPHL in Philadelphia and WPMT in Harrisburg) and Cox (owners of WPXI Pittsburgh and WJAC Johnstown).
Also: Albritton Communications, which owns a TV station in Harrisburg and the fine Web site politico.com.
