There has been a lot of discussion about whether Disney made a smart move or a dumb one in deciding to stream TV shows over the Net. Jeff Jarvis argues it's right on because this way they provide the on demand experience that people want nowadays. On the flip side, Umair Haque says Disney got it all wrong. He says they're just turning their shows into a commodity since the value online now is in aggregating content a la MySpace. And John Hagel writes he tends to agree.
Fred Wilson, though, argues that it's a good first step... (I am with him)... And THEN Ben Barren (complete with his ironic pic of the day)ties it all together. His idea? Disney should buy YouTube. Then their unbundled content suddenly has a very big, very popular, very cool home...(Course, still one with some illegally posted videos living in the attic...Might need to call in the exterminator...)
