Nivi pulled together a couple of quotes that seem to demonstrate that Jobs may have at one point agreed with the tact the French are taking on iTunes and the need for inter-operability. (Which could affect the sale of iPods in France and to a lesser extent the dynamics for podcasting there).
"In 2002, Steve Jobs said, 'If you legally acquire music, you need to have the right to manage it on all other devices that you own.'
In 2006, France said, 'The consumer must be able to listen to the music they have bought on no matter what platform.'"
Of course, Jobs may simply have meant that you have the right to manage it on all the Apple devices you own....
