"Blogging software and suborbital space travel don't have much in common, but a similar theme emerged from the talks by Mena Trott, the co-founder of Six Apart, and by space cowboy Burt Rutan. In the past, most new technologies had military roots, and the first non-military applications were often in the business world, eventually seeping in the consumer space. Trott's Movable Type blogging software was created for consumers and is now being used by corporations. Similarly, Rutan talked about how private space travel is being driven by private industry rather than NASA. No doubt these aren't the only examples of reverse technology transfer."
