Just met with Suranga Chandratillake, the co-founder of Blinkx, a startup that's doing interesting things with video and audio search. Chandratillake says that since January, the amount of user generated content (podcasts, video blogs and video) that they track has exploded, rising 25 fold between January and May.
He had other interesting tidbits: BlinxTV now track 35,000 different podcast channels.
The services indexes 700 hours of new grassroots podcast and video content each day.
And while the average length of a podcast is 26 minutes, the average amount of words that the person writes to describe that podcast is 12.6......
Blinkx is known for its video and audio search, but it also has an interesting toolbar that links you to relevant information on the Web as you type a letter or respond to an email.
