Cox Family Bids to Take Cox Communications Private

Fifth Third Bancorp agrees to buy First National Bankshares of Florida, and more deal news

The Cox family holding company, Cox Enterprises, bids $32 per share, in a deal valued at about $7.9 billion, to take Cox Communications (COX ) private. (8/2)

DirecTV Group (DTV ) agrees to pay $875 million to buy control of about 1 million DirecTV subscribers now served by Pegasus Communications (PGTV ). (8/2)

Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB ) agrees to buy First National Bankshares of Florida (FLB ) for about $1.58 billion, or $25 a share. Terms: 0.5065 FITB share for each FLB share. (8/2)

The Wall Street Journal reports that Sun Microsystems (SUNW ) has looked at a number of acquisitions, including Novell (NOVL ). (8/2) Cooper Companies (COO ) agrees to buy Ocular Sciences (OCLR ) for $44 per share in stock and cash. (7/29)
