UBS Warburg Keeps 'Buy' on AT&T

Analyst Linda Meltzer kept her rating based on valuation, and says Comcast's proposal to buy AT&T's broadband unit is a positive for the company

UBS Warburg reiterates buy on AT&T (T ).

Analyst Linda Meltzer says she cut the $28 target to $25, and cut the $0.28 2001 EPS estimate to $0.25 based on a sum-of-the-parts valuation ($12 broadband, $3 consumer, $6-$8 business services and $2 for other investments). She says the AT&T Wireless spin-off on Monday is the first part of a multiphase restructuring plan. By summer's end, AT&T is expected to complete the Liberty Media Group separation.

Although AT&T has no current plans to sell its broadband business, the company says it will evaluate a proposal from cable giant Comcast. Meltzer says Comcast's proposal is a positive for AT&T in light of increased transparency for its broadband business.
