Do you have software that's driving you buggy? Maybe it's because you're missing out on free patches or upgrades that fix and update your programs. Now McAfee, a division of Network Associates, and Symantec, the publisher of Norton Utilities, are pushing new products to keep you current on the latest upgrades, in much the same way the two security companies provide updated cures for computer viruses.

After you load Symantec's Norton Web Services (www.symantec.com) or McAfee's PC Clinic (www.mcafee.com), they can review your computer's software and check on the Internet to see what updates are available. Next, you'll get a list of updates with a brief explanation of what each one does. It takes just a click for an automatic installation. Both programs cost about $30 a year.
