It's not easy to be a centrist politician in Hong Kong. Just ask Christine Loh, 42, member of the city's Legislative Council (Legco). Politics is dominated by firebrand liberals who ceaselessly spar with the stodgy Chief Executive and his pro-Beijing supporters. Loh is different. Her Citizen's Party favors democracy but isn't hostile to Hong Kong's business elite. A noted environmentalist, Loh is a former trader at Salomon Inc., and she has a keen understanding of economics and business. Says Loh: "Hong Kong is about the idea of freedom, entrepreneurship, flexibility."
